Atlassian (TEAM) reports fiscal first-quarter 2027 results tonight after the close, with the call set for 5pm ET. Analysts expect $1.39 per share on $1.71 billion in revenue. The Earnings Whispers number sits at $1.48, nine cents above consensus.
That gap matters less than the history behind it. The last four non-GAAP EPS results came in at $1.04, $1.22, $1.75, and $1.87, against estimates of $0.84, $0.73, $0.98, and $1.50 respectively. Beats ranging from 24% to 85%. Atlassian has made consensus look conservative every single quarter. Tonight, the question is whether that pattern holds, or whether the bar has finally been raised high enough to catch up.
The ServiceNow Shadow
The backdrop is not neutral. ServiceNow has taken a sharp hit over the past week, and the reason was not a bad quarter. It signals something far more threatening to every software company charging by the seat.
In its most recent quarter, ServiceNow’s GAAP operating margin fell to 9.5% from 17% a year earlier. Some investors are treating that as evidence that agentic AI could eventually pressure seat-based pricing models. Atlassian runs a comparable model. Jira, Confluence, and Jira Service Management are all sold seat by seat.
TEAM fell 7.3% on October 29, dropping to $204.10. Then fell another 6.1% on October 30 to $191.72. Going into tonight, the stock sits roughly 17% below its $229.96 October peak. The selling pressure came from sector fear, not company-specific bad news. That distinction is the foundation of the trade.
Atlassian’s counter to the displacement argument is Rovo and the Teamwork Graph. The company has pointed to a new kind of AI-native organization emerging and said it has seen a 7x increase in agentic automations across customers in the last six months. Atlassian also says workflows grounded in Teamwork Graph context can produce up to 44% higher-quality answers while using up to 48% fewer tokens. The argument is that Atlassian is not being replaced by AI agents; it is becoming the connective tissue for them. Tonight’s revenue figure tests that claim.
The seat-based pricing question is not unique to Atlassian. Salesforce cleared every earnings bar and still sold off as investors debated whether AI agents would erode its per-seat licensing model.
What Options Are Pricing
Bloomberg options data suggest TEAM shares could move 13% when the company reports.
Elevated put volume inflates the cost of downside protection. A bull call spread on November expiry, structured to profit on a move toward $210 to $215 from the current $188 to $191 range, defines the maximum loss at the debit paid. If Atlassian misses or guides light, the spread expires worthless and the risk is fully contained.
The Beast Verdict
Atlassian goes into tonight having been sold alongside ServiceNow and the rest of the seat-based software cohort, despite four consecutive quarters of large positive surprises. The bearish skew in options makes a defined-risk bullish structure cost-effective relative to its own history. The thesis breaks on two specific signals: cloud revenue growth decelerating below the 31% reported last quarter, or any language suggesting Atlassian’s AI tools are cannibalizing seat counts rather than expanding them. Watch the FQ2 guidance range as closely as the EPS line. That is where the market tells you what tonight actually meant.
