A note from our friends at The Agora Companies(ad)

Dear Reader,

150 years ago, boatloads of French, Italian, and German settlers embarked on an incredible journey…

They left their homelands forever…

They crossed oceans, mountains, even desserts to carve out an entirely new haven.

They brought the very best of their homelands with them…

Classic Haussmann-style architecture…

World-renowned culinary secrets…

Deep viniculture traditions…

And meticulous Old World engineering know-how.

They paved wide avenues resembling the Champs-Élysées…

… designed opera houses to rival Milan’s La Scala

… and planted thousands of acres of premier vineyards.

Today, while mainstream tourists overlook this magnificent corner of the world, savvy American expats have quietly made it their own.

We call it “New Europe”.

And those Americans who discovered it are living in refined Old World luxury at shockingly low prices…

  • Parisian Architecture for a Fraction of the Price: Broad, tree-lined avenues lined with 19th-century Haussmann stone buildings and flower-lined wrought-iron balconies – where classic apartments rent for just $650 a month
  • A Riviera to Rival Cannes: Waterfront promenades, marina basins filled with white yachts, and beachfront cafes where a luxury ocean-view apartment costs $640 a month
  • World-Class Alpine Retreats: Winding stone streets, wood-beamed chalets, and authentic Bavarian bakeries nestled beneath snow-capped peaks – with ski lift passes starting at just $37 a day
  • Chauffeurs & Chores Covered: A private city chauffeur ready at a moment’s notice for less than a typical monthly US auto insurance bill, plus reliable housekeepers for around $100 a month
  • Comprehensive Healthcare: Top-tier private health coverage with guaranteed treatment for chronic conditions – and zero deductibles – starting near $50 a month

Americans living in “New Europe” aren’t pinching pennies or cutting back.

They are holding their core assets in strong US dollars while paying for their everyday overhead in local currency.

As one expat put it: “If you have U.S. dollars and spend in the local currency, then you can live a relatively easy life here.”

Levi’s Raised Its Own Guidance. Shorts Disagree.

Levi Strauss goes into Wednesday’s after-close earnings report carrying a contradiction that the options market cannot ignore: management lifted full-year guidance in the last two quarters, yet short sellers have spent September rebuilding positions at one of the most deliberate paces the stock has seen in months. One of them is wrong. That gap is the trade.

The Story Behind the Trade

The facts on the bull side are not subtle. Levi entered fiscal Q3 following strong Q2 results driven by 6% organic revenue growth, improved margins, and higher direct-to-consumer sales, which prompted an upward revision of full-year guidance. The company raised its full-year 2026 outlook, now targeting reported net revenue growth of 7.0% to 7.5% and adjusted diluted EPS of $1.46 to $1.52. Inventories are clean. Free cash flow improved meaningfully in Q2. The company raised its quarterly dividend to $0.16 per share, a 14% increase, and is in the later stages of a $200 million accelerated buyback expected to settle in fiscal Q3. That is not the balance sheet of a brand in distress.

For Wednesday, analysts project earnings of $0.36 per share, up 5.9% year over year, with revenues expected to reach $1.61 billion, increasing 4.5% from the same quarter last year. UBS forecasts third-quarter earnings of $0.36, in line with Wall Street expectations, but expects stronger revenue to raise fiscal 2026 EPS guidance by $0.02 to $1.48 to $1.54. The bank sees another four to six cents of potential EPS upside if Levi lowers the tariff assumptions embedded in its guidance to reflect current tariff rates.

The bear case rests on macro caution, currency drag, and a management team that has said explicitly it is building conservatism into its second-half outlook. UBS flagged that the main risk is Levi adopting a cautious approach to its fiscal 2026 outlook because of continued macroeconomic uncertainty, creating only a moderately favorable risk-reward for the results. Jefferies and Citigroup both trimmed targets late last week, to $25 and $22 respectively, while maintaining their existing ratings.

Technical and Fundamental Alignment

LEVI has shed roughly 7% over the past month against a market that has largely held ground. Sentiment toward Levi Strauss remains bearish, with shares down 15.1% over three months compared with a 2.9% gain for the S&P 500, according to UBS. Yet the analyst consensus mean price target sits at $27.53, implying roughly 38% upside from Friday’s close near $19.87. That gap between where the stock trades and where analysts think it belongs is wide enough to anchor a bullish thesis on its own. Add the earnings history: LEVI has beaten consensus EPS in every quarter going back at least two years, with beats ranging from $0.02 to $0.10.

The short build is real. Short interest now represents 8.65% of the free float, up 39% over the past month, with shares short climbing from roughly 6.4 million in early September to nearly 9 million. Borrowing costs remain low at 0.49%, and availability exceeds 1,000%. Shorts are not squeezed into these positions; they chose them. That is either conviction or a crowded directional bet that unwinds fast on a beat-and-raise.

Options Perspective

The options market is pricing an 8.2% move around the results, above the stock’s 6.8% historical average. That premium is meaningful but not extreme, which keeps debit spread costs reasonable. Given the defined catalyst date and the stock’s history of beating estimates, a bull call spread targeting a move back toward the $21 to $22 range fits the thesis cleanly. Buying the October 16 $20 call and selling the $22 call caps the upside but also caps the premium at risk to roughly $0.50 to $0.65, depending on execution. Maximum loss is the premium paid. Maximum gain is roughly 3x that if LEVI closes above $22 at expiry.

Avoid the long straddle here. UBS expects the shares to move closer to their longer-term average rather than the elevated implied move, which means selling implied volatility rather than buying it is the institutional lean. The debit spread stays long direction without paying for a volatility pop that may not arrive.

Risk Management

Two things kill this trade. First, Levi beats on EPS but guides conservatively for Q4, the same outcome that followed Q2 when shares fell about 3% on the day after the report. Second, a broader consumer selloff the same week drags the stock regardless of results. Position size accordingly: this is a defined-risk expression of a short-squeeze thesis, not a portfolio allocation. The appointment of John Vandemore as the incoming CFO, effective November 1, 2026, adds one more variable; his first public appearance alongside outgoing CFO Harmit Singh on the earnings call could shift tone in either direction.

The Beast Verdict

Levi Strauss is the week’s cleanest binary. A management team with two consecutive beats and a fresh guidance raise faces a short base that has grown 39% in a single month. Bulls point to consistent momentum in direct-to-consumer and growth initiatives beyond core denim. The options market prices roughly 8% movement, the debit spread caps risk from dollar one, and the catalyst lands Wednesday after the close. If shorts are wrong, the unwind is fast. If they are right, the spread expires worthless and the loss is the premium. That asymmetry, on a fixed date, against a confirmed short rebuild, is what Option Beast hunts for.
