Cloudflare Heads Into Earnings on a Sector Mined With 18% Craters

The infrastructure-software sector has turned into a minefield this week. On November 4, Datadog saw its stock fall about 18% in premarket trading after its earnings report, despite robust revenue growth and earnings that beat analyst expectations, as the market punished the company’s cautious near-term outlook. One day earlier, Dynatrace shares plunged more than 15% in premarket trading following a downward revision of its full-year adjusted earnings and free cash flow forecasts.

That’s two of Cloudflare’s closest sector peers wiped out in 48 hours. Cloudflare reports Q3 2026 results after the market closes tonight, Thursday November 5, with the conference call at 5:00 PM ET. The question is whether the market treats NET as contaminated by the same guidance-deceleration fear, or whether Cloudflare’s distinct growth profile earns it a different verdict.

Why This Isn’t Simply Guilt by Association

The Datadog selloff was mechanical. The underlying results were hardly weak: Q3 revenue jumped 35% year-over-year to about $1.20 billion. The problem was that the market read the near-term outlook as a deceleration signal, and investors recalibrated on the implied slowdown. Dynatrace ran into a comparable problem: management raised its revenue outlook yet lowered its adjusted earnings and free cash flow targets, telling markets it can sell more but may keep less of each dollar of sales.

Cloudflare’s set looks structurally cleaner. Q2 revenue was $696.1 million, up 36% year-over-year, with current RPO growth of 35%. Back in August, management guided Q3 to $736 million to $737 million in revenue, which already sat well above where the Street was. Consensus now calls for about $0.34 per share in earnings on about $736.8 million in revenue. Cloudflare has beaten the Zacks consensus estimate in each of the trailing four quarters, with an average positive surprise of 9.30%. That consistency is not nothing in a week when the sector’s reaction function is hair-trigger.

What the Options Market Is Pricing

Options are implying a move of approximately plus or minus 14% to 15% around tonight’s report, based on pricing as of November 3. That’s a wide band, inflated in part by the sector carnage already on the board. The market is pricing fear. That fear can be rented cheaply using a defined-risk structure.

The strategy that fits: a bull call spread expiring this week or next, buying a strike near the money (around $265-$270) and selling a strike that captures a move roughly half the implied range, perhaps around $300. Premium paid is fully defined before the report hits. If Cloudflare delivers a beat and raises full-year guidance without the sequential-flat guidance miss that crushed Datadog, the spread captures a large portion of that upside. If NET follows DDOG and DT lower, the loss is capped at the premium paid. That asymmetry is exactly the point.

What Would Break the Thesis

The bear cases are real. Cloudflare is down about 24% over the past month heading into earnings, with an average analyst price target of $345.16 versus a recent share price around $273. The stock’s price-to-sales multiple remains elevated, and after a 36% revenue quarter the bar for Q4 guidance is not low. Any hint of slowing RPO growth, enterprise deal pushouts, or a guidance range that tracks Datadog’s sequential moderation would quickly validate the sector selloff rather than refute it.

The Beast Verdict

Two names already fell double digits on guidance language this week. The market has pre-loaded fear into Cloudflare’s implied move. That means a beat-and-raise tonight is not fully priced, and a defined-risk options position going into the 5:00 PM call costs far less than the potential payoff if Cloudflare separates itself from the sector wreckage. Manage size, own the risk before the call begins, and watch Q4 guidance and RPO trajectory above everything else.
